The heartbeat of AJM Planning and Design is a deep love for the Creator and the people we call friends
The day started early as the team made its way to Bulacan. For over a week we prepared simple gifts to give to our clients as a gesture of peace and friendship to those who have partnered with us. The usual giveaways would be bottles of wine or items to display on your work desk — things that hardly have any meaning at all except the usual “thank you”, void of emotion or purpose. The AJM team chose another path and opted to go with something that is near to our hearts: plants.
With great challenges ahead of us we have to be creative in expressing how we feel towards those we truly value.
AJM Planning and Design is all about landscape architecture and how to harness it to transform cities and communities. The pandemic has taught all of us that Creation matters and in fact is the source of life itself. The only way to ensure the survival of the planet is to embrace our roles as stewards of the environment and we at AJM advocate the responsible development of the earth not just for our use and enjoyment but also to sustain and enrich life. To convey this timely message we gave out plants this Christmas as a symbol of our advocacy.
But there is a deeper purpose to our practice: the inner wellbeing and transformation of people that flows from the Creator and Giver of Life.
I and my team have chosen to build deep and meaningful relationships with those we work with for we have a genuine and authentic love for people. In truth our clients start out as strangers but end up being good friends throughout the course of our projects and we strongly believe that the best projects are products of the collaborations between friends. And as we incorporate the dreams, aspirations, experiences and souls of each individual into the design of sites these projects resonate in people’s minds and hearts even more. A Great Spirit moves when people connect to one another and come together for good, and this positive energy is reflected in the creative ways we design our sites. It is crucial, therefore, that we establish good friendships and partnerships to every individual involved in our work if we are to accomplish a greener and more sustainable planet.
And so to celebrate this green life and establish a sustainable future with those we call friends, plants as tokens have been given out this Christmas as a symbol of solidarity and a healthy and productive relationship. I believe that the simpler the gifts the deeper the relationships go. And a simple potted plant tells our friends that their contribution and partnership to the transformative work we are doing is of high value to us. The refreshing presence of nature in and around us remind us that our circumstances can be beautiful and as a result we treasure those we hold dear to our hearts even more. There is more to AJM than just deadlines and drawings for at the center of our service and striving is an appreciation for the people within our circle. Nothing motivates us more than seeing the smiles of the hearts we have touched through the work we passionately share. We are, after all, one community. We are AJM.
May this season be filled with hope and joy in the middle of life’s great challenges. Let us look to new horizons and opportunities to be a positive energy in nature and a blessing to those around us. Peace and blessings, Kaibigan!
